Vamana Purana is one of the eighteen major Puranas (Mahapuranas) in Hinduism. It is mainly associated with Vishnu and his fifth incarnation, the Vamana Avatar. One of the most famous legends related to the Vamana Purana is the story of King Bali. King Bali was a powerful and generous ruler who gained control over the three worlds through his strength and devotion.
To restore cosmic balance, Lord Vishnu took the form of a small Brahmin boy called Vamana. He approached King Bali during a sacred ceremony and asked for a simple gift — three steps of land.
King Bali agreed to the request. At that moment, Vamana transformed into a gigantic form and covered the entire universe in two steps. With the third step, Bali offered his own head. Impressed by Bali’s humility and devotion, Lord Vishnu granted him a special place in the spiritual realm.
This story symbolizes the victory of humility and righteousness over pride and power.
